QUARTERED FIGURED WILLOW Botanical Name:
Salix spp.
Origin:
Europe
Description:
Although best known for cricket bats, some logs, especially when figured, are converted into veneer. These are mostly quarter cut to produce a veneer that is varying shades of light creamy yellow, sometimes with pale pink markings. The irregular grain produces a pretty broken figure which, together with the soft colours, can result in a very attractive looking surface. Willow is not often used for furniture, its main application being for interiors – panelling, doors etc.
