CROWN LIME
Also known as:
Basswood, Linden tree
Botanical Name:
Tilia cordata, T. europaea, T. vulgaris
Origin:
Europe, West Asia
Description:
The long-lived Lime tree is a common sight in parks and town squares, sometimes growing to a very large size.
Its timber is best known as an ideal choice for carving and turning, being smooth, soft and very close grained.
Creamy white to pale yellow, quiet and even fairly bland in appearance, the veneer is a favourite for architectural model-making. It is also used for
cabinet work and occasionally for panelling.
