CROWN JARRAH Also known as:
Western Australian Mahogany, Swan Mahogany
Botanical Name:
Eucalyptus marginata
Origin:
Western Australia
Description:
Colour varies from pinkish red to rich dark red-brown and, when polished, Jarrah can look similar to a fine old Mahogany. Usually flat cut, to produce crown veneer, occasionally with a touch of figure. Some larger logs may be quartered. It is fairly coarse textured and the grain is often interlocked. Supplies are becoming scarcer as there are now restrictions on the felling of older growth trees. Used for panelling and fine cabinet work.
