ELM, AMERICAN RED

CROWN AMERICAN RED ELM
CROWN AMERICAN RED ELM
Botanical Name: Ulmus rubra, U. fulva
Origin: North America
Description: With the depletion of European Elm stocks over the last twenty odd years due to Dutch Elm disease, this species has become of more commercial importance. Fairly similar in appearance to its European counterpart, Red Elm is flat cut to produce veneer that often has a good cathedral crown and useful straight grain material. Some logs have a wilder structure and on occasion are used in a random fashion to give the appearance of solid timber.
