BOXWOOD
Also known as:
Brazilian Boxwood, Castelo, Olivio (when olive hearted)
Botanical Name:
Gossypiospermum praecox
Origin:
South America
Description:
This is not a true Boxwood but is similar in appearance and, unlike real European Boxwood, it is available commercially as a veneer. Very close-grained and with a fine, lustrous texture, the colour is a light golden yellow. On occasion some older trees may develop an olive-brown heart which gives this veneer a totally different appearance, somewhat resembling Mediterranean Olive. This is sometimes marketed under the name Olivio. Boxwood is mainly used for cabinet work. The plain yellow veneer is also available in 1.5mm thickness.
