FIGD. AVODIRE
Also known as:
African Satinwood
Botanical Name:
Turraeanthus Africana
Origin:
Tropical West Africa
Description:
Although the odd plain log is occasionally sliced, the main demand is for figured veneer.
The logs are mostly quarter cut in order to accentuate the pretty mottle figure.
Avodire has a lustrous surface with a fine texture. Once seen quite frequently in railway carriages, it is nowadays mainly used for furniture and decorative interiors (doors, panelling etc.).
