Origin: Europe and western Asia

Description: Most logs are fairly small and somewhat mis-shapen, therefore the veneer produced is usually not particularly large in dimension. The darker coloured heartwood contrasts with the sapwood, making an interesting visual feature. Used mainly for furniture and craft work but occasional special logs make very effective panelling.
